Trials and Triumphs

Celebrations and Challenges in Raising a Child with an Extra Chromosome

On May 17, 2025, we came together for a heartfelt virtual event that brought honesty, empathy, and empowerment to the forefront. “Triumphs & Trials” was a special sharing session by four incredible mothers raising children with Down syndrome, joined by two guest professionals who offered expert insights into communication and daily life skills.

Four brave moms generously shared their personal journeys, opening up about the celebrations and the struggles, the quiet fears and the loud victories that come with raising a child with an extra chromosome.

It was especially meaningful to hear from Obelia, one of the founding members of Espesyal Pinoy (Singapore). Her presence and story were a powerful reminder of how this community was born: through the desire to uplift, connect, and walk alongside others on a similar path.

Their stories were complemented by professional insights from:

  • Ellyn Cassey K. Chua, MSc, RSLP, Speech-Language Pathologist, who emphasized the importance of communication, early intervention, and a family-centered approach.
  • Marlowe Eriberto Acuña Jr., OTRP, Occupational Therapist, who shared practical strategies to promote independence, sensory regulation, and skill-building at home.

Hosted via Zoom, the event was filled with warmth, learning, and solidarity. Attendees from across the world listened intently, asked thoughtful questions, and found common ground in shared experience.

This collaboration with CLI Training Consultancy marked another meaningful chapter in our mission to create supportive, empowering spaces for families raising children with special needs. More than a webinar, Triumphs & Trials was a gathering of hearts and a reminder that every voice matters.
